Mohammed Nasim, has been grounded by a court order.
In a significant move by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), the late minister’s wife, Laila Arjumand Banu, their two sons—including former MP Tanvir Shakil Joy—and two other close associates, have all been barred from leaving Bangladesh.
A Dhaka court issued the travel prohibition earlier today, acting on an urgent plea from the ACC. The core reason? A deepening investigation into alleged corruption, abuse of power, and illegal wealth accumulation.
The ACC has reportedly gathered intelligence suggesting that the family members were actively preparing to escape the country. For the anti-graft body, this sudden flight would have been disastrous, potentially halting their entire probe into assets allegedly gained through illegal means and then laundered through banking channels.
By imposing the travel ban, the ACC is attempting to lock down the suspects and ensure that vital evidence and the individuals needed for the inquiry remain accessible, allowing them to proceed with a high-profile investigation that touches one of Bangladesh’s most prominent political families.
